School of Nursing - Continuing Education:

Dermatology Surgical Workshop
Friday, November 1, 2019

This Dermatology Surgical Workshop is a hands-on workshop led by a board certified Nurse Practitioner (NP) with 20 years of dermatology experience. This workshop is open to NP students and NPs specializing in primary care. Participants will have an opportunity to learn common dermatology procedures performed in the primary care setting.

This is an introductory workshop for NP students and recent NP graduates who have limited experience in basic dermatological procedures. This workshop covers instrument basics such as suture types and selection, proper loading of the needle, wound assessment, local anesthesia, aftercare, and documentation. Participants will have the opportunity to practice basic suturing techniques, incision and drainage, and biopsy techniques.

This course prepares the participant for proficiency in performing common dermatologic procedures that are often conducted in the primary care setting by expanding participant’s exposure to common conditions requiring selected procedures.
