Ground Robotics

Ground Robotics

This introductory-level camp is for students whom are new to robotics. Students will work with Lego Mindstorms and VEX Robots. The Mindstorms will introduce basic block programing. With the VEX Robot, students will begin by building the basic clawbot and work with the remote controlled robot to compete in a team-based activity against other teams in the camp. Students will then be challenged to adjust their VEX robot to do another type challenge. Once the students are comfortable with building and adjusting their robot, the instructors will begin teach basic RobotC programming. Students will work as they learn. Instructors will teach concepts and ideas as needed by each group. The camp will be a 5-day, all day camp on the campus of Oakland University. Student success will be heavily dependent upon their commitment to excellence while in class. The admissions process will depend on the number of students who apply. Students from 3rd grade to 12th grade are encouraged to attend this camp.

In this camp, students will:

  • Build and program Lego Mindstorms.
  • Design and build the basic VEX clawbot.
  • Be introduced to RobotC programming on the VEX robot.
  • Compete against one another in a team atmosphere.
